How Steerable Jinkers Can Help You with Your Heavy Haulage Problem

Automotive Blog

If you have a sizeable piece of machinery or asset that you want to transport to another facility that may be in another state, you need to get help from specialist haulage companies. They may bring in transportation solutions that have been specially designed for this type of unusual movement and make it possible to achieve an outcome that you would not have been able to pursue yourself. One piece of technology is known as a steerable jinker, but what exactly is this?

Non-Standard Approach

A standard, heavy-duty tractor-trailer is designed to haul items that fit within strict dimensions in terms of height, length, width and weight. They are also designed to fit within a standard traffic lane to manoeuvre and turn through sharp corners during everyday use.

Planning the Challenge

In this situation, your asset may be overly long, heavy or wide, and you will certainly need to get special permission to haul it over long distances. But you will also need to use a set of trailers that are specifically designed for this challenge.

Towing Dollies

To begin with, your haulage company will probably add one or two additional towing dollies. These can markedly increase the capacity of a single trailer and support a much larger weight. They can also share a lot of the pressure that would otherwise have been placed on the gooseneck between the tractor and the first trailer.

The Steerable Jinker

The contractor may also bring along one or more steerable jinkers. At least one may be placed at the back of the rig, especially if your asset is overly long. As the name implies, these small independent trailers can be steered by remote control. Therefore, the operator can adjust the position of the back of the trailer with little input from the driver of the vehicle. This means that the trailer can be placed in the best position to go around any sharp corners. In other words, they can decrease the turning radius due to this flexibility, so they can choose a transportation route that is more direct than it would otherwise have been.

Achieving the Impossible

You'll be amazed to see how an unusual load like this can deal with relatively narrow streets and sharp bends. Of course, much of this success will be down to the skill of the operators – and the fact that you have these steerable jinkers on your side.

I Like Driving in My Car

Hello, my name is Brian and if there is one thing I like to do, it is to go driving in my car. There is no better way to relax and unwind than heading out on the open road. I am not an auto mechanic or a car dealer, but over the years I have spent many years working with people such people and they have been kind enough to teach me a thing or two about buying and maintain automobiles. I have decided to start this blog so I can share everything I have learnt with the rest of the world.
